SK representative tops PB in absences
By Jenette P. Malinao
Sun.Star Staff Reporter

Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Cebu Provincial Federation president Ramon Martin Calderon missed almost half of the Provincial Board sessions last year, topping the list of absences.

Calderon did not attend in 20 of the Board’s 48 sessions, but filed a leave only three times.

However, he could not be held liable for his 17 unexplained absences as the house rules states that the PB could only do so for members with three consecutive unexplained absences. Calderon managed to be present, or file a leave, on the third time.

On the other hand, among the 15 PB members, only PB Member Antonio Almirante Jr. does not have any unexplained absences for the year. In previous years, Almirante, who represents the second district, was also cited for being present in all PB sessions.

Last year, however, Almirante missed one session but he was on leave.

As legislator, Calderon has not filed any ordinance. He sponsored 108 of the 3,322 resolutions that the Board passed, but these were merely for appropriations.

Of the 108 appropriations resolutions, only about 53 were released to the recipient barangays because others are still being processed or lack the required program of work.

The allocations were for socio-cultural activities, basketball goals or rings, repair of a tennis lawn, volleyball tournaments, SK uniforms, trophies, medals and a television, among other things.

Calderon also managed to file three committee reports, tackling the creation of sports commissions in Sibonga, Tabogon and Talisay. (JPM)
