Mondares claims Class A crown in Mactan golfest

Fernando Mondares topped the Class A contest of the 3rd Mactan Casino Tee BM’s Cup Golf Tournament at the Mactan Coral Golf and Country Club with a day’s best of 68.

Mondares, a 10-handicapper, had nines of 39 and 39 to finish ahead of Renato Aquino, who finished with a 70.

In Class B, Justice Abarrientos took the title by a single stroke, scoring a round of 70 to finish ahead of Ernerberto Creus, while Gary Galanza took the Class C title via countback after tallying a round of 73. Runner-up Gene Quintanilla also scored a 70.

It was also close contest in the Guest division as Melson Muneses scored a round of 68, just one ahead of runner-up Lonick Olivar.

In the Ladies category, Gigi Ash also needed a countback to take the title after tallying a round of 71. Che-che Burlas also had a 71.

Justine Morada took the overall lowest gross title after scoring a 76.

In the other contest, Kim Agatep took the longest drive award, after hitting 285 yards in the first hole. While Randy Campos had Tiger Woods written all over him after sinking the ball from 37 feet in the 18th for the longest putt award.

Tyson Choi’s approach shot in the sixth hole was also the one nearest to the pin –four feet and 11 inches.

Proceeds of the tournament will be donated to the victims of landslide in St. Bernard, Leyte.
