USC organizes BIO+ 2006
THE University of San Carlos, through the initiative of its Department of Chemical Engineering, has organized for the second time a one-day symposium to promote research activities in bioprocess engineering.
The symposium, called BIO+ 2006, will be held on March 9, at the CAFA Theater in the Talamban Campus.
This year’s symposium aims to bring together researchers and stakeholders of bioprocess industries in the country in order to initiate discussions on research collaborations, as well as to promote exchange of ideas between university researchers and industrial partners on how academic researches be made more relevant to industry’s needs.
A keynote speech by Dr. Benigno Peczon, president and CEO of Biotechnology Coalition of the Philippines will open the symposium.
A series of research paper presentations will immediately follow.
A total of nine papers, with topics on microbial products, advanced fermentation and bioseparations, will be delivered by authors coming from different research institutes in the country, Taiwan and Thailand.
Cebu Vice Gov. Gregorio Sanchez, the owner and founder of Lacto Bacillus Pafi Techno Resources Corp. is also scheduled to talk about his company, being the featured bioprocess industry in the symposium.
The organizers are inviting the interested public to attend. To be a participant in the symposium, a P600 fee is required; the amount is already inclusive of the book of abstracts, refreshments, lunch and dinner.
Registration starts at 7:30 am outside the Rigney Hall, USC, Talamban Campus. For inquiries and more details contact the chemical engineering department at 032-3446783 (telefax), email chedept@usc.edu.ph or visit www.usc.edu.ph.
