Masked motorcycle riders kill man

TWO hooded men on a motorcycle gunned down a 34-year-old man in Sitio Lahing-lahing Riverside, Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City.

Romulo V. Lumogda, a mason who lived in the neighboring Sitio Lower Carreta, Barangay Carreta, died on the spot. Two bullets hit his head while playing coin games locally known as “hantak” at 10:45 a.m. yesterday.

Residents in the area cried foul over the killing of Lumogda whom they described to be a good man and had no criminal record.

Lumogda left four children with his wife.

SPO2 Rey Cuyos, one of the responding investigators, said Lumogda was betting on the illegal gambling game when the perpetrators, who were riding a yellow XRM motorcycle, arrived.

One of the perpetrators, armed with a .45 pistol, got off from the motorcycle while the other one, the driver pointed, to Lumogda and uttered, “Ayaw dagan ha (Don’t run).”

The gunman then pumped two bullets into Lumogda’s head.

In their haste to flee, the motorcycle reportedly crashed but the driver managed to drive back and sped away.

The assailants were described to have covered their faces with bonnets and helmets, bolstering suspicion of the residents that the killing was a handiwork of vigilantes.

Scene of the Crime Operation personnel led by PO3 Ronolo Manolong found two empty shells and two .45 slugs.

Lumogda’s body was taken to San Fernando Funeral Homes for autopsy. (JST)
