USC-PTA wins sixth straight
THE USC-PTA quintet continued its searing comeback after a poor start as it scored another victory in the 2006 Punta Princesa Sports Association (PPSA) Lourdes Fiesta Cup basketball tournament at the expense of CEC Batch 1960, 88-84, at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Gym.
Fresh from a 106-97 win over Global Accent Export in their last game, the USC-PTA had to battle a tight fourth quarter against CEC '60s, before escaping with a win to improve to 4-4.
Cesar Ortega had another marvelous game as he scattered 20 markers in leading five USC-PTA gunners who registered double-digits.
Double-digits
Toto Lawas added 18 points for USC while the other players who contributed double-digit scores were Lawrence Loquias (13), Rolan Adarna (13) and Boy Omaña, who banged in 10 points.
USC-PTA dictated the tempo of the match in the first three quarters and even managed a 75-58 edge entering the final period, with Ortega and Loquias providing the scoring.
But CEC '60s surprised USC in the fourth with a rally capped with a short lay-up from Alistair Chiu to cut down the lead to just a one, 83-84, in the waning seconds. (JSV)
