Speak out: Tyranny by any name

Gloria Arroyo declared recently a state of national emergency under Presidential Proclamation 1017 and General Order No. 5 commanding all units of the Armed Forces to suppress any anti-Arroyo protest action on the very eve of Edsa 1, also known as People Power 1.
We in Bayan Muna party list believe that Mrs. Arroyo's declaration is tantamount to or is already a virtual declaration of martial rule.
We vividly remember that we, Cebuanos, bravely fought and kicked out then dictator Ferdinand Marcos from Malacañang 20 years ago.
Now, there is a clear and present danger in the making---another dictator in the person of Mrs. Arroyo.
We will say it again: Never to Martial Rule! Resist the tyranny! We will never be cowed by Mrs. Arroyo's pronouncements.
We call upon all freedom-loving Cebuanos to be one with us in resisting any repression of our fundamental rights to air grievances and freedom to peacefully assemble.
