Business month to promote SMEs in infotech, tourism

ENTREPRENEURSHIP is the focus of this year’s Cebu Business Month (CBM), an annual two-month event organized by the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) that will kickoff in May.

According to CBM chairman Wilson Ng, this year’s business month will promote entrepreneurship and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Cebu’s two potential winning industries — information and communications technology (ICT) and tourism.

One of the higlights of CCCI’s 11th CBM is the “ICT and Tourism Business Conference and Exhibits” or “InTourPreneur 2006,” a three-day conference and exhibit with the theme: “Participating and Investing in Greater Cebu’s Twin-Win Industries.”

“Entrepreneurs are rightly recognized as the backbone of the economy. And it is an important recognition that the conference will cater not only to the person who has the capacity to build a 500-seat call center or a 200-room hotel but also SMEs, which might ask ‘I have P150,000, how do I participate in Cebu’s economic growth and potential?” Ng said in a statement.

Highlight

InTourPreneur 2006, which will be held from June 21-23 at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino, aims to highlight the vibrant growth and abundance of opportunities for business and investment in Cebu. The event is meant to act as a catalyst in attracting investments to other neighboring towns and cities in the Visayas and Mindanao.

CCCI is inviting companies to participate in the exhibit. The event’s target participants are computer resellers and dealers, software development houses, business process outsourcing companies and call centers.

Also urged to participate are colleges and universities, hotel and resort operators, travel agencies and tour operators, air, shipping and logistics businesses, investment houses, banks, venture capital companies, firms and their franchise-holders, small businesses, managers, professionals and consultants.
