Z impresses boxing experts
WHEN it comes to the abilities and the future of flashy boxer, Z “The Dream” Gorres, it seems believers outnumber the doubters.
Nevada State Athletic Commissioner head Marc Ratner, two-time world champion and 2000 Trainer of the Year Buddy McGirt, boxing writer Mike Sloan, famous boxing trainer Freddie Roach, columnist Quinito Henson, British boxing trainer Tony Martin were just among the noted experts who believes Gorres is a force to be reckoned with in his division.
Ratner was impressed when he saw Gorres dominate Mexican Jose Alfredo Tirado last Feb. 4 at the Orleans Hotel and Casino.
McGirt, who trained Gorres in Florida last year, said the youthful ALA boy have what it takes to become a world champion; while Sloan wrote good things about Gorres and said “Gorres appears to be a threat in the super-flyweight division.”
Future
For Roach, Gorres has an excellent future ahead of him and that is the reason why he flew all the way from Los Angeles to Las Vegas to be at the corner of the Mandaue City fighter.
Henson also wrote Gorres is the most skilled Filipino fighter in recent years and Martin described him as a “magnificent fighter.”
But despite all the praises and the accolades he has received, Gorres is still under the shadow of his stablemate, Rey “Boom-Boom” Bautista, who is third only to Manny Pacquiao and Brian Viloria, when it comes to boxing attention.
However, his handlers believe Gorres’ coming out party will be on March 18, when he climbs the ring opposite Thai puncher Waengpetch Chuwatana for the vacant Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation super-flyweight title. (RCM)
