| FAMILIAR PROBLEM. A woman collects water from her flooded neighborhood in Jakarta, Indonesia. Heavy rains in the monsoon season have caused floodings and landslides in various Indonesian regions and other parts of Southeast Asia in recent weeks. At least 75 people were killed after a landslide hit a village in Central Java earlier this month following days of heavy rains. Here at home, authorities plan to move families living on Cebu City’s riverbanks, amid warnings of heavier rainfall soon on account of La Niña. (AFP Photo) |

AT LEAST 100 houses located along riverbanks in Cebu City will be demolished because City Hall fears flashfloods and landslides, following the onset of the La Ñina phenomenon.
They would have to be relocated, said City Councilor Gerardo Carillo, chairman of the council committee on social services.
