DOT creates jobs data bank to fill vacancies, improve tourism sector

The Department of Tourism (DOT) is setting up a high-tech hiring system and information technology infrastructure for the Tourism Jobs Fair, which will be held in Cebu City on April 3 to 5.

The fair constitutes the initial phase of the DOT’s “Tourism Jobs (Jobs, Opportunity, Business)” program.

The program is designed to address the lack of qualified talents to fill up job openings in tourism, improve the tourism course curriculum and provide continuing skills training to upgrade the competence of the labor force.

The event will serve as the DOT’s one-stop venue for employers, academe and the labor sector to assess each other’s needs and create an employment match.

Applicants, schools and employers can find more information on the program on www.tourismjobs.ph

The website is available all year round. It will continue to gather vacancy postings from tourism industry employers and applications from jobseekers even after the fair.

Access

Employers and applicants who have already registered may continue to access their profiles for updates, see new vacancy listings and post new job slots.

Interested persons can also register online. Upon registration, they will be given a unique identification number (UIN).

All participating employers will be asked to bring their own laptops or desktops, where a special software will be installed to enable them to view the applicant’s profiles in the database through their UINs. This process will eliminate the conventional practice of submitting a resume every time an applicant applies for a job.

The tourism jobs data bank will remain all year round, creating an extensive database on employment opportunities and a list of applicants seeking a career in tourism.

Compile

Resumes of applicants who will not qualify for the positions offered at the jobs fair will be compiled in the databank. These applicants will be referred to the Tourism Industry Board Foundation Inc. (Tibfi) for further skills training.

The DOT will link up with the TIBFI for re-training programs and skills development training as part of resolving the dearth of qualified applicants.

SM Mall and PLDT are also supporting DOT by accommodating the Tourism Jobs Information Kiosk. SM will provide a space for the DOT kiosk while PLDT will provide free connections to the Internet.

The jobs fair will also be held in Davao City on April 4 to 6 and in Manila on April 6 to 8. (PR)
