CIS sweeps swim, wall-climbing meets

After staging its Football Cup last week, the Cebu International School staged an Invitational Swim Meet and a Rock Climbing contest at its campus in Pit-os yesterday.

“It’s just a limited (swim) meet because we are just trying out the new equipment we installed at our pool,” said athletic director Brian Bedford.

Yesterday, 69 swimmers from the University of San Carlos, University of San Jose-Recoletos, Maria Montessori, Bright Academy and CIS competed in the half- day swimfest, with CIS bagging 345 points to take the overall title.

Five golds

Georgina and Karen Brand led the medal haul for the host with five first-place finishes between the, while Jonathan Fritszche had two. Others with one gold medal in the meet were Jack Hunt, Rowdy Elbers and Kevin De Keijzer.

“Next year, we may stage this (swim meet) two or three times, and we’ll probably invite more schools,” Bedford said.

Yesterday’s event also served as a tune-up for the CIS swim team, which will compete in the 17th Brent International School Invitational next month.

On the other hand, Junry Asignar of Talamban National High School edged out Paolo Cases of CIS by a hairline to top the boys 15-17 wall-climbing competition.

Asignar topped the wall in 12.03 seconds, while Cases took second place with a time of 12.34.

Yuta Hamada and Gabriele Baljak swept the 10-Under division for CIS while HIrotaka Tashior topped the Boy’s division in the 11-14 age group. (ML)
