Labangon shuts door on Tomas Osmeña Cup

Organizers of the 2006 Mayor’s Cup Softball Open were forced to cancel today’s matches after failing to iron out disagreement with Labangon Elementary School (LES) principal Josephina Fabio and Parents-Teachers Community Association president Nimfa del Rosario.

Lead organizer Dionisio Bacarisas told Sun.Star Cebu that the Labangon Elementary School grounds will be closed today.

“We have already secured a permit from Dr. Leonilo Oliva asking Mrs. Fabio to allow us to use the grounds, but we got a letter from the principal last Friday informing us we could no longer use the grounds for varied reasons,” Bacarisas said.

Differences

Bacarisas hoped they could iron out the differences since they are still on the process of holding a dialogue with school officials and the PTCA though they are already looking for alternate venues.

“It would be ironic since our tournament is named after Mayor Tomas Osmeña but we have no choice if we will be denied.”

“There are a lot of points Mrs. Fabio raised in her letter. Mainly it said for security reasons (they are closing the school). I just want to discuss these things, but I believe she is just misinformed,” said Bacarisas.

Bacarisas also doubted another group is trying to undermine the project.

“Maybe. But as much as possible we will settle this matter because we only have one direction and that is to help softball and batted sports get back to its feet.” (RCM)
