Firms help LGU study traffic jam
Private companies in Cebu City are now pitching in to help find a solution to the worsening traffic problem in the Banilad and Talamban areas.
“The Ayalas are going to do something about the traffic,” said Rene Almendras, president of Cebu Holdings Inc. (CHI), an affiliate of the Ayala Land Inc.
Almendras said CHI may open the access road to the Asiatown IT Park to serve as an alternative road to Banilad.
Plans
Aboitiz and Co. president and chief executive officer Jon Ramon Aboitiz said the company is part of a group that is now drawing out plans to help ease traffic in the area.
Earlier, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) 7 Director Rogelio Osmeña said traffic along Archbishop Reyes Ave. in Cebu City has worsened worse due to increasing number of vehicles plying the area as a result of newly-opened business establishments.
The opening of the Banilad Town Center (BTC) has been cited as a factor that contributed to traffic congestion in the area by Sun.Star Cebu columnist Elias Espinosa.
In an interview, Almendras said the local government has been meeting and discussing possible solutions with private companies, such as the Ayala and Aboitiz groups.
“(It) is a cooperation between the government and the private sector,” he said. (JBN)
