CCSC taps 15 sports directors By Rommel C. Manlosa Sun.Star Staff Reporter
A total of 15 sports directors were presented to Mayor Tomas Osmeña during a meeting yesterday.
The Cebu City Sports Commission, headed by Michel Lhuillier, tapped the sports directors in a bid to widen Cebu City’s grassroots sports development program.
“It was just a sort of introducing to the mayor and to Lhuillier the different sports directors and telling them about the policies that the sports commission is implementing,” Professional Games and Amusement chairman Sylvan “Jack” Jakosalem told Sun.Star Cebu.
Holdovers
Present during the meeting were Boojie Lim for chess, Glenn Soco (volleyball), Rex “Wakee” Salud (boxing), Ricky Dakay (football), Andot Rubi (cycling/biking), Jessica Jawad-Honorides (table tennis), Juan Uy (swimming), Mark Aliño (weightlifting), Ben Miranda and Lolito Sy (bowling), Andie Marte (scrabble), Tony del Prado (taekwondo), Ramon Vidal (adventure sports), Dondi Joseph and Siegredo Velasquez (archery) and Ryan Rivera (gymnastics).
Also present were dancesport’s Edward Hayco, his wife Eleanor and April Tudtud-Ramos, and tennis’ John Pages. The Haycos and Pages are holdovers of the previous pool of directors.
“We told them that we don’t expect them to go to the government for help. But the mayor promised that whatever tax they paid for a year, it would be given back to them by the city. This will be used in terms of training and competitions,” Jakosalem said.
In-fighting
The sports commission was also particular on the multi-faction swimming group.
“We told them, especially Juan Uy of swimming, that they should not be biased to one group. And we expect them to create a plan that will produce maximum participation. We want to get the people play sports, that is what we are trying to emphasize to them,” said Jakosalem.
The CCSC is expecting a “black and white” proposal and program plans from the respective godfathers within the coming days.
Meanwhile, work is underway for the construction of the Sports Park at the South Reclamation Project.
Aside from a football field and a baseball/softball park, Mayor Osmeña promised to build venues for cycling and archery.
