Burglars break into hall, steal tanods’ pay

THIEVES broke inside the barangay hall of Poblacion Ward I in Minglanilla hours after the barangay officials ended their regular session Saturday night.

Police suspect the robbery took place around 1 a.m. after everyone, including the tanods who were supposed to guard the building’s premises, had gone home at 10 p.m. when the session finished.

The culprits entered the building by destroying the doorknob of the barangay hall’s back door.

Stolen were P5,000 for the barangay tanods’ honoraria, a TV set, a video/karaoke set, an electrical kettle, an electric calculator and a remote control device.

SPO1 Ricky Larrobis, theft and robbery investigator of Minglanilla police, said the items couldn’t possibly be carried by only one man.

The police was disappointed with the tanods for apparently failing to secure the building.

“Dyotay ra mi diri sa police station unya amo pa ang tanang trabaho. Ambot unsa na lang ang trabaho anang mga tanod (We don’t have enough men here in the station. I don’t know what the tanods have been doing),” Larrobis said.

He said it is disappointing that most barangay halls in Minglanilla, including that of Poblacion Ward I, are not guarded by a single tanod at night.

“Unlike the tanods in Cebu City, the tanods here are not doing their job,” Larrobis said in Cebuano.

He said no suspects have been identified so far because there is no witness. (AIV)
