Net sustains telco
The Internet has sustained the landline telecommunications business in the country, according to an industry player.
Patrick Tang, Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) assistant vice president for retail voice acquisition, said industry-wide, the growth of the landline industry has been flat due to the popularity of mobile phones.
But PLDT’s subscriber base has not declined.
“Many are still keeping their landlines for dial-up. The Internet has encouraged them to keep their landlines,” he said in a press conference at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino last Saturday.
PLDT launched in Cebu its latest program, the “PLDT Superheroes Bilis Kabit,” which reduces the rate of landline connection to P500.
PLDT Cebu business zone head Vicente Pesayco said the company decided to launch the promotion in Cebu because PLDT believes in the dynamism and uniqueness of the Cebu market.
“Cebu is now the center of attention. It is what businesses are looking at,” he said. (JBN)
