Ryan Agoncillo as a taong grasa
We all know Ryan Agoncillo as the young, intelligent, and handsome TV host and actor that everyone loves. This week, however, ABS-CBN’s multi-awarded drama anthology Maalaala Mo Kaya gives him a chance to tackle a surprising, meaty role by casting him against type as Rads, a “taong grasa,” in the episode airing tonight.
Nuel Naval directs a riveting script by Shugo Praico for this powerhouse episode that also stars Nikki Valdes, Carmi Martin, Encar Benedicto, Bing Davao, Ronnie Lazaro, Hermie Concepcion, Soliman Cruz, Zeppi Borromeo and Joshua Dionisio.
Many of us have seen them around the city. Most of us try to avoid them. But these men and women, who have so absorbed the filth of the streets in which they live that they have become known as “taong grasa” (grease people), also have their stories.
This week’s episode centers around the fall of Rads (Ryan Agoncillo), a 26-year-old man who roams–and lives in—the streets of Quiapo.
It would surprise many of his current friends and cronies to know that once, Rads wasn’t the complete wretch he seems to be now. Completely drug-dependent since his teens, Rads had been disowned by his family and loved ones. But what made him become a “taong grasa”? What life chances did he waste? And will he ever be able to rebuild the life he lost?
