Barakos trounce Express move to 2nd spot
The Red Bull Barakos bounced back from a loss in Urdaneta, Pangasinan last week by outgunning Air21 Express, 112-98, yesterday at the Cuneta Astrodome.
In the second game, San Miguel beat Sta. Lucia, 100-89.
Red Bull’s victory created a three-way tie at second spot as the Barakos aped the 3-2 win-loss records of San Miguel Beer and Purefoods Chunkee Giants.
Lordy Tugade stepped up offensively in the final canto for the Barakos as the Pangasinan sniper drilled in 17 points including four treys and grabbed four boards to snare the Best Player of the Game award.
The Express, which dipped to 2-4, hasn’t won against the Barakos this year.
Red Bull wrapped the game up as early as the middle of the fourth canto after it erected a huge 103-85 lead.
The Express tried to crawl back into the game and managed to cut down their deficit to 96-105 after Winnie Arboleda and Ronald Tubid spearheaded a rally that ended with still 2:15 left in the game.
But the Barakos wouldn’t let victory slip from their grasp as they tightened their defense to protect their edge. (JSV)
