Man sleeping on sidewalk survives vigilante-style attack
A car watcher who was sleeping on the sidewalk with his wife and child was shot vigilante-style at dawn yesterday.
Roberto Repunte Regis, 33, survived three gunshot wounds and is confined at the Cebu City Medical Center.
Witnesses told police that two men dressed in black raincoats arrived onboard a yellow Kawasaki Aura motorcycle at the corner of Legaspi and Jakosalem Sts.
The passenger got off and immediately fired at Regis.
Regis suffered wounds in the left side of his chest, abdomen and right thigh.
The shooters quickly fled, heading toward Jakosalem St.
Witnesses failed to see the motorcycle’s license plate.
Tanods of Barangay Sto. Niño learned of the shooting and rushed Regis to the CCMC.
Homicide investigators gathered from bystanders in the area that Regis was once an inmate at the Bagong Buhay Rehabilitation Center.
Police recovered two slugs from the crime scene.
In another incident, a food checker who was playing video games was shot dead in Sitio Mahiga, Barangay Banilad Sunday night.
Bystanders told police that a man in his mid 30s wearing a checkered shirt and denim pants approached Michael Emilio Abucejo, 28, and then shot him in the left side of his body.
When Abucejo fell to the ground, the man allegedly shot him again at the lower left jaw, killing him instantly.
He then took a look at the bystanders and told them not to move.
Then he casually walked away towards the main Banilad road and hailed a taxicab.
A slug of undetermined caliber was recovered by a responding Scene of the Crime Operations team.
Abucejo’s body was brought to the Cebu Rolling Hills Memorial Homes. (MEA)
