Honda launches latest sedan; new car has more power, fuel efficient

Honda Cars Philippines Inc. (HCPI) launched in Cebu, simultaneously with other key cities in the country last Monday, its new, eight-generation Civic car.

Fred Magpayo, HCPI’s vice president for administration division, said Civic represents the “heart” of Honda, a revolution shaping the automotive industry.

Millions sold

“Honda sold over 16 million Civic cars worldwide and close to 85,000 units in the Philippines since 1991,” he said.

Tito Solomon, general manager of Honda Cars Cebu, said the new Civic has better fuel efficiency in a new form, a new engine and new features.

Powered by the newly developed 1.8-liter i-VTEC engine, the new Civic combines acceleration equivalent to a two-liter (engine) with fuel economy similar to that of a 1.5-liter engine, Solomon said.

The new Honda Civic became available starting yesterday for the price of P767,000, he said.

“Considered by many as a breakthrough car, the Civic fused intelligence and excitement setting a global benchmark with each new generation. To date, we are celebrating eight generations of innovation, advanced technology and unparalleled style — possibly making the Civic the only industry benchmark of the era,” Takashi Sekiguchi, HCPI’s president and general manager, said in a statement.
