Reject ‘rebuilt’ units sans DTI okay: BOC
The Bureau of Customs (BOC) Port of Cebu is reminding the Land Transportation Office (LTO) of its duty not to register vehicles from rebuilders who are not accredited with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
DTI Cebu Provincial Director Nelia V.F. Navarro said in a letter that only 21 of the hundreds of rebuilders in Cebu are DTI-accredited, according to District Collector Ma. Lourdes V. Mangaoang.
Director Luis Catibayan of the DTI’s Bureau of Import Services said that the DTI, BOC, LTO and Bureau of Internal Revenue have an existing arrangement that says vehicles from rebuilders not accredited with DTI must not be registered.
“If it is true that the LTO in Cebu still registers the vehicles of rebuilders who are not DTI-accredited, I will call the attention of LTO Assistant Secretary Annelie Lontoc,” Catibayan said.
Mangaoang, who just survived an attempt to reshuffle district collectors nationwide, said she promised the Cebuanos that she will implement the law, so everyone must follow rules on vehicle rebuilding.
The accredited rebuilders in Cebu are Tiger Motor Sales, Cebu Familia Surplus, Cebu Titan Surplus, 3 in 1 Marketing, Richport Trading, AHN Trading, JRA Surplus and Parts Supply, PPK trading, MRU Commercial, Cebu Reliance Motor Parts Inc., Nito’s Auto Supply Inc., New Parttraders Inc., Image Auto Parts and Hydraulic Center, J.Y Surplus and Parts Supplyu, Metro Pacific Motors, World Cruise Inc., Uni-ACG Marketing, Cebu Truckworld Corporation, A-Joy Transport, SCV Trading Corp. and Aison Surplus and Auto Parts Corp.
Meanwhile, officials of BOC and the Department of Finance from Manila refused to answer phone calls from Sun.Star Cebu to clarify the suspension of the implementation of the reshuffling of district collectors. (EOB)
