Two Boholanos to fight on May 12 in Vegas card

Ala Boy Czar Amonsot will again display his skills in the US as the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Asia-Pacific super-featherweight champion will appear once in a Guilty Boxing Promotions event on May 12 at the Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This time, the Tagbilaray City-raised fighter will tag along fellow Boholano slugger Along Denoy of the SGG Boxing Stable, who will make his first appearance in the US.

“Filipino boxers are in demand today in the US. We only heeded their (Guilty Boxing) request of bringing more Filipino boxers to the States since they saw how popular the boys were in their last fights there,” said international promoter Sammy Gello-ani.

Gello-ani said Guilty Boxing president Nick Rattena was impressed with Amonsot’s performance against the Mexican toughie Christian Favela in his US debut, where the 20-year-old, 130-pounder scored a unanimous decision win in the undercard of fellow ALA Boy Z Gorres’ win over Mexican Jose Alfredo Tirado after 10 rounds last Feb. 3.

Bautista, Gorres

The previous card at the Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas drew a sold-out crowd, which came out of the hotel’s Mardi Gras Ballroom clamoring for more Filipino fighters.

The Cebu-based Boholano fighters, who are yet to know their opponents, will leave on April 20 with another Boholano sensation, Rey “Boom-Boom” Bautista, and Gorres, who are scheduled to appear in a Golden Boy Promotions card on May 20 and 27, respectively, in Los Angeles, California.

Amonsot was very impressive when he fought Thai fighter Decho Bankluaygym last March 18 at the Mandaue City Sports Complex. Denoy, who is from the town of Candijay, is fresh from a knockout victory against Manila-based Jun Eraham last Feb. 3.

Denoy overwhelmed the journeyman Eraham before sending him to the canvas in the sixth round. (RCM)
