Toral: Blog tracking By Janette Toral Digital Filipino
Two weeks ago, I got the chance to reactivate my Bloglines.com subscription.
As a result, I am once again plugged to developments from various perspectives in the blogosphere. It is interesting to note the variety of issues and concerns that bloggers are taking note of.
As it will be difficult to subscribe to all blogs, there is a site like Technorati.com that allows you to search for content appearing in blogs. For instance, I monitor outsourcing developments in Cebu City. I add these keywords to my Technorati.com watchlist and add the RSS feed to my Bloglines.com. As a result, whenever there are blogs that cite the keywords in my blog, I am immediately notified.
In addition, I use Google Alerts (http://www.google.com/alerts) to monitor content on the web. In this case, instead of opening all online newspapers to monitor news about President Arroyo, I add her full name as keyword in my alert.
Every day, I receive an e-mail that contains all the new content online that cites her name. If I’m interested to learn more, I just visit the website and read the full story.
I believe that these online tools are a clear indication of how the Internet is becoming much more user-friendly to users. This has also helped me update my blogs, such as the Philippine Outsourcing Review (http://philippineoutsourcingreview.blogspot.com) and that of Sen. Mar Roxas (http://marroxas.blogspot.com). Without Google Alerts, Technorati and Bloglines, it would be difficult for me to update these blogs.
Google has launched a free website service similar to Geocities.com. You can find this online at http://www.googlepages.com. I tried creating a site at http://digitalfilipino.googlepages.com/. It is user-friendly for a basic webpage creation service and I look forward to its future enhancements.
If you have a blog, one statistics monitoring service you should use is Performancing.com. I tried using it a week ago after reading about it from Max Limpag’s blog (http://max.limpag.com).
To my delight, it monitors which blog pages got read lately, keywords used in search engines and Google AdSense clicks.
This means if you are using Google AdSense, you’ll be able to find out how many ads got clicked and from which blog post yours came from.
Two days ago, I recorded my very first podcast and will announce it here online. This was done in conjunction with Creative Voices and I pray that it will be a success as we do this podcast twice a month.
SUNNEX ANNIVERSARY. Happy anniversary to Sunnex and more power to you folks. With the power of the Internet, Sun.Star has become a growing global brand and a viable source for monitoring developments in the Philippines. With more companies sensitive to the importance of news websites, this can also result to greater revenue opportunities.
