Transco chief speaks Before UC, CIT grads

“Education gives you the power to change lives, communities, societies, and nations. But it the exercise of leadership that will make a difference in the quality of life in our country.”

Dr. Alan T. Ortiz delivered this message on two separate occasions last week before college graduates of the University of Cebu (UC) and the Cebu Institute of Technology (CIT).

Ortiz is the president and chief executive officer (CEO) of the National Transmission Corporation (TransCo).

Stressing that knowledge and education has the power to transform individual lives and the destiny of nations, Ortiz pointed out that “education is very important to us Filipinos, especially to the millions of our people who remain mired in proverty.”

“Without land, without capital, without a good job, without savings, the only hope left for these millions is education, which builds on our richest and strongest resource : our minds,”, he added.

Ortiz called on the graduates “to the need for you to see your education as a God-given opportunity not just to change your life but those of others.”

“No matter where you go or what you do, I hope that you will dedicate yourselves to the service of society, in the many positive ways open to young and idealistic Filipinos,” he said.

Quoting the late Robert Kennedy in his campaign speech for the U.S. Presidency in 1968, he said: Some men see things as they are and ask Why? I dream things that never were and ask Why Not?”
