USC, UC bets rule By Jade S. Violeta Sun.Star Staff Reporter
University of San Carlos bets Karl Sorronda and University of Cebu’s Yugean Yusikee reigned supreme in their respective divisions to snare the championship titles in the premier categories of the JVC Regional Badminton Championships at the Holiday Spa in Banilad, Cebu City.
Sorronda snatched the championship diadem in the Elite Men’s Singles division after he outshone the bet of the University of the Visayas, Adrian Ardiza, 21-18, 21-4. Yusikee collected the Elite Women’s Singles title, tallying a lopsided 21-14, 21-11 victory over UC teammate Hazel Blyth Peroy.
Yusikee repeated over Peroy in the Elite Mixed Doubles as she paired off with Sorronda to blast the pairing of Peroy and Jonathan Olofernes, 21-18, 21-17, and take home the crown.
Peroy, though, didn’t go home empty-handed, after her team-up with Irish Olofernes proved to be a successful one. They ruled the Elite Women’s Doubles with a three-set, 21-19, 19-21, 21-6 win over the tandem of Gina Juan of Courtyard BC and Jesselle Solivas of Portside BC.
In the Junior Boys’ division (16-Under), UC’s James Bell Rizon completed his amazing streak in the tourney by bagging the Singles championship title after knocking out USJ-R’sClint Angelo Armamento, 21-18, 21-12.
Mary Rose Montebon, though, exacted revenge for the defeat of Armamento, as the USJ-R lady swatter demolished University of the Visayas’ Jewel Amor Cullamat, 21-19, 21-16, to take away the championship title of the 16-Under Girl Singles’ event. |
