Cebu bids to host Under-17 national finals
THE Cebu Football Association (CebuFa) is bidding for the right to host the Philippine Football Federation Men’s Under-17 Visayas Elimination set next month.
CebuFa president Jonathan Maximo has submitted his bid to the PFF and is hoping for a positive response after the Holy Week.
Since there is no national tournament planned for the age-group yet, the Visayas Leg could become a stand-in for a national tilt, since the recognized football powerhouses come from the region.
Teams expected to see action in the tournament are from Cebu, Iloilo, Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental.
“I believe Iloilo and Dumaguete are also interested in hosting the event,” Maximo said.
The Men’s Under-17 regional could be the second hosting job for the Maximo-led CebuFa, after it hosted the 2004 PFF Adidas Under-19.
And just like the previous hosting, among the concerns it will have to address is the playing venue.
The Queen City United is set to hold its Cebu Inter-Club Invitational tournament, using the University of San Carlos, Sacred Heart School-Jesuit and San Roque fields. (ML)
