Travelers endure delay at sea
THE generator of Cebu Shuttle Ferry 7, which was on its way to Cebu from Camiguin Province, broke down, delaying the arrival of 355 passengers for hours yesterday.
Cebu Coast Guard station commander Manolito Malig-on said the 730.42-gross tonnage roll-on-roll-off vessel was forced to anchor off Bantolinao Point in Barangay Ibo Lapu-Lapu City.
All safe
Nobody was hurt, but most of the passengers complained because not enough food and water were served.
Malig-on said they expect the ship captain, Romeo Bardos, to file a marine protest within 24 hours.
Most of the passengers spent their Holy Week in Camiguin Island and were sailing back to Cebu.
The boat was expected to arrive in Cebu at 8 a.m. but it reached Pier 8 of Mandaue City at 12:20 p.m., Malig-on said.
The ship scheduled to leave Balbagon port in Mambajao town, Camiguin at 8 p.m. last Sunday.
Tugboat
But too many passengers delayed the departure to past 9 p.m., said passenger Maria Luisa Jadol.
Upon reaching Mactan channel, the vessel got stalled past 9 a.m. yesterday. A tugboat had to pull it to the Mandaue port, said Malig-on.
The Cebu Shuttle Ferry crew distributed free bottled mineral water, but the supply was not enough.
Jadol said there were passengers who had no assigned cots.
She also lamented that there was no water in the comfort rooms when the power went off. (OCP)
