River development project to be completed before Dec.
Butuan City—The Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC)-funded Lower Agusan development project of the Cotabato-Agusan River Bank Development Program (CARDP) is to be completed before end of this year.
Its two components, the 415 low cost housing and the improvement of the Banza River, were completed last year.
Major Flood Control and Drainage Project Cluster 2 director Philip Meñez said private contractors of the undertaking have sped up work on the infrastructure development-water resources and flood control and mitigation project, which stands to benefit 400,000 residents in Butuan and nearby towns of the Agusan provinces.
The project is given the highest rating by the Department of Public Works and Highways Standards and Systems Bureau in terms of quality and accomplishment, topping all other major flood control projects nationwide.
Phase 2
The second phase of the Lower Agusan Development Project (LADP) Stage One involves the construction of a 14.5-kilometer levee embankment, Magsaysay viaduct (with a length of 628 m), improvement of Banza River and the 90-hectare spoil bankyard.
The project also includes the dredging of the Agusan River, improvement of Masao River, east bank drainage, provision of 415 low-cost housing units and other land improvement works.
Meanwhile, project engineer Aurelio Mendoza of the Masao River improvement and construction of urban drainage system program said LADP Package 4, which he heads, is now 98 percent complete.
Mendoza said the pro-ject, which involves the improvement of the Masao River and construction of the urban drainage system, is to be finished by the end of this month.
The project completion is aimed at minimizing flooding in Butuan City’s thoroughfares.
For his part, LADP project manager Rogelio Ang said construction of the Magsaysay viaduct would be finished by the end of May this year.
The 628 meters viaduct is the first of its kind in Caraga Region.
