City to buy 60 cars for Asean summit
Cebu City Hall will spend about P28.5 million to buy 30 multicabs and 30 sports utility vehicles (SUVs) to beef up its transportation in the delivery of basic services and peace and order campaign.
Mayor Tomas Osmeña said the City will have to buy multicabs now that no private firm is interested to lease 50 multicabs to the City Government.
He said the City is negotiating with Toyota and Isuzu and waiting for their separate price quotations for the City Government to buy 30 Crosswinds or Innovas.
The mayor will assign all 30 SUVs to the local police until December in time for the Asean Summit so it will have extra mobility.
After the summit, about 10 SUVs will be assigned to the various departments in City Hall, the City Prosecutor’s Office and to some judges in the Regional Trial Court and the other 20 will remain with the Cebu City Police Office, he said.
Although the City will still have to evaluate the offers of both Toyota and Isuzu, the mayor finds the Isuzu vehicles cheaper to maintain and easy to modify.
He considers having the vehicles’ rear door removed during the six-day summit.
Also, Isuzu already assured that it will already release the vehicles right away even if the City Government is still processing the checks for payment.
He expects that Toyota will peg the Innova at P800,000, the Isuzu Crosswind at P700,000 and the multicab at P200,000. But the City will have to consider expenses for registration, radio, siren and other accessories for the police cars.
The multicabs have been used to transport services of City Hall offices, for the City’s peace and order campaign, tax monitoring and evaluation and the monitoring of the ongoing school building projects in the barangays, among others.
The City has set aside a lump sum appropriation of P14 million for the rental of multicabs under the 2006 annual budget but it might use the budget for the purchase of brand new vehicles. (GAC)
