Mayor ‘pledges’ P2M to renovate fiscals’ office

Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña visited the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office yesterday for an ocular inspection.

The visit was in response to a letter City Prosecutor Nicolas Sellon wrote him last month in relation to a possible renovation.

Over 30 city prosecutors signed the letter, said Sellon, as the office needs renovation and beautification.

Osmeña’s visit was at past 1 p.m. yesterday, with personnel from the City Engineer’s Office.

According to Sellon, Osmeña himself supervised the ocular inspection.

“His presence means he is serious in giving the office assistance,” said Sellon.

Sellon said the mayor promised P2 million for the renovation and beautification in the next supplemental budget of the city.

The main problem of the city prosecutor’s office is its flooring and the paint.

Electrical wirings should also be reinstalled to prevent electrical problems.

If the P2 million budget is approved, Sellon is hopeful that a vault or a safety container will also be purchased for the office.

In 2001, 298.10 grams of shabu or worth P357,000, disappeared in the city prosecutor’s office.

Sellon also hopes that the budget may also include the purchase of computers for the prosecutors.

He said that most fiscals bring their own personal computers in the office.

Sellon clarified that the local government unit has always been supporting their office, but this would be the first time the office would be renovated and beautified.

Recently, the prosecutors were also given the privilege to request for a handgun from City Hall. Most of the 30 prosecutors opted to request for one.

When asked if a handgun is necessary for a prosecutor, Sellon said, “If it’s not necessary, at least it is helpful.” (JGA)
