A fitting farewell for GMA-7’s grandest telefantasya, Encantadia
After a year of mesmerizing Filipino viewers and critics here and abroad, GMA Network’s phenomenal top-rating and multi-awarded telefantasya, Encantadia, comes to a grand conclusion this week, April 24-28, preceded by the Encantadia retrospective TV special by director Mark Reyes, “Avisala, Encantadia!” on April 23, Sunday, after Ang Mahiwagang Baul.
GMA-7 is without a doubt the undisputed leader in the tele-fantasy genre. Encantadia, with all its versions since it began in May 2 a year ago, is collectively one of the longest-running, ground-breaking, and highly-awarded series of the Network. It would be greatly missed when the doors to this enchanting world closes for the last time.
Over the past year, Encantadia went from being a visually-appealing entertainment program to a Pinoy pop icon. It touched so many people’s lives and became the “talk of the town,” that so many viewers have attested to being true-blue “Encantadiks.”
The show even caught the interest of members of the academe for its potential literary value and cultural relevance and it became the subject matter of several collegiate theses. The show and its stars and directors have also been given numerous awards and commendations from different award-giving bodies here and abroad, including the Gawad Amerika Awards, Asian TV Awards, New York Film Festival, Golden Screen Awards, USTV Students’ Choice Awards, Guillermo Mendoza Awards, and K-Zone Magazine.
The many mind-boggling questions and spellbinding conflicts that abound in television’s grandest, most ambitious, and biggest production ever will finally see light during its finale week. Who will be the next ruler of Sapiro now that the prophecy about Haring Ybrahim’s (Dingdong Dantes) death finally came true? Will his death ever be avenged by his loved ones? Will Bathalumang Ether (Angel Aquino) and Hagorn (Pen Medina), ruler of Hathoria, finally succeed in conquering Sapiro, Lireo, and the rest of Encantadia now that the Sang’gres have lost one of their own? How will the four Sang’gre sisters—Pirena (Sunshine Dizon), Amihan (Iza Calzado), Alena (Karylle), and Danaya (Diana Zubiri)—defeat a goddess? What has happened to Lireo’s next heir to the throne, Cassandra (Ella Guevara)? Will the “help” that came from Devas (including Aquil [Alfred Vargas]) be recalled? And how did Arman’s (Marky Cielo) mother, the Heran Odessa (Pauleen Luna), actually die?
Before viewers bear witness to the final unraveling of the epic story in its must-see final week, GMA-7 gives its biggest and grandest telefantasya a proper send-off with “Avisala, Encantadia!” a tribute to the men, women, creatures, and realms that have captivated audiences for a year. It will feature a behind-the-scenes look on the set, props and costumes of Encantadia (from Book 1 to Etheria to Book 3), never-before-seen footages, new interviews, fresh-cut music videos, bloopers and gags, exclusive confessions and revelations, and touching farewell messages from the pioneering batch of actors to the latest additions to the Encantadia family. “Avisala, Encantadia!” airs on Sunday, April 23, after Ang Mahiwagang Baul.
This week is the viewers’ last opportunity to watch the Sang’gres that they have been with for a year. Viewers should therefore not miss a single scene on the telefantasya’s finale week.
Encantadia airs weeknights after Majika on GMA Telebabad.
