Guardo nat’l. badminton starts today in Lahug

Vice Mayor Mike Rama, Councilor Joy Pesquera, Danao City Sports Commission chairman Oscar Rodriguez and Gov. Gwen Garcia will be the guests of honor in the opening ceremony of the 1st Guardo Sports-Rudy Project National Badminton Championships today starting 8 a.m. at the Metrosports Badminton Court in Barangay Lahug.

The opening, which will feature a welcome dance number by the Southwestern University-Sinulog Contingent, will start with the parade of 300 participants around Lahug.

The tournament, which will have three levels – C, D and E – will play mix in the opening day, while the Women’s and Men’s Doubles will be played tomorrow.

The games will have round-robin matches and the 1-21 points scoring system.

Celebrities Beth Tamayo and Malou Santos will also be seen in action in the two-day tournament, which will raffle away gift items from Rudy Project aside from the cash prizes.

There will be a cocktail party at 8 p.m. at the Teatro Casino, Waterfront Hotel, Lahug which will also serve as a launching party for Rudy Project Eyewear’s 2006 collection.

The tournament is also being supported by Mobile Gear, San Miguel Corp., Pagcor, Waterfront Hotel, Lahug, Avia, Cebu TV Cannel 28, RCTV, Killerbee, Monster Radio, Sunstar, The Freeman, Cebu Daily News, Cebu Grand Hotel, Purefoods, Converse, Globelines, Sulpicio Lines, Viva Mineral Water, Gerry’s Grill, Flame It, Cebu Pacific, Powerade and Coffee Dream.
