TAGBILARAN City – The Cebu City Niños solidified their bid for a 13th overall championship in both the Elementary and Secondary divisions of the 2006 Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (Cviraa) Meet as they continue to pull away from their rivals in the third day of action yesterday at the Carlos P. Garcia Sports Complex.

The Secondary division bets of the Niños extended their tally to 664 points after gathering victories from dancesport, athletics, table tennis, badminton and lawn tennis, even as Cebu Province threatened Bohol Province’s hold of second spot by moving just a point behind the host province.

After lagging behind in the first two days, Cebu Province moved to high gear with a total of 179 points in the Secondary division to knock loudly on Bohol’s doors as the latter produced only 180.5 points after three days.

Leading the Niños’ mighty showing in the Secondary division were its Boys and Girls Doubles tennis teams, which snared the titles in their respective categories.

Francis Largo and James Carl Cañete began the Niños’ onslaught in the third day as they bested their rivals from Cebu Province, 8-0, to win the championship in the Boys Doubles event.

Lovely Soquiño and Sallydine Siso gave Cebu City another first-place finish in the distaff side after crushing their rivals from Negros Oriental, 8-0.

Dancesport

In dancesport, giving the Niños victory in the Latin-American category was the pair of siblings Jumil and Juzaly Bacalso.

Rodah Mae Fernandez and Fernando Aquino also glittered for Cebu City after capturing the plum in the Standard category also in dancesport, assuring themselves of a spot in the Naga City Palarong Pambansa on May 7-13.

Badminton

In Secondary badminton at the Bohol Wisdom School, Cebu City’s Clint Angelo Armamento ruled the Boys Singles event after defeating teammate Alvin Seno in the finals, while Joe Charles Marigomen and Niño Anthony Go topped the Boys Doubles event over Mandaue City’s Anthony Bergantin and Charles Pastrana.

Go and Yedah Fornolles teamed to capture the Mixed Doubles crown.

Yedah Fornolles won her second title for the Niños after dominating teammate Jewel Amor Collamat in the Girls Singles, while Mary Rose Montebon and Michelle Comotas completed Cebu City’s championship sweep by winning the Girls Doubles plum.
