Talk back: Sonny O’s initial salvo By Jorge Batoon Bonbon, Aloguinsan (now of Glendale, California)
Your editorial today on Sonny Osmeña's planned political comeback was right on the money.
The political landscape has indeed changed. And there is no more convincing proof of this than the fact that when he registered in Toledo City last Monday, only one local paper (not Sun Star) carried the story. The photo was "contributed" (presumably by the former senator's PR people), and not one taken by a photographer of the paper.
Two years ago, this would have been unthinkable. Cebu's media would have swarmed and staked out in Toledo City to await Osmeña's dramatic arrival.
How things have changed. It seems that people are not excited anymore about Sonny Osmena. Maybe he has spent his political stock in the last elections, and in his subsequent moves to divide Cebu and Cebu's politicians?
Whatever the reason, his initial salvo was, to say the least, tepid. Maybe Cebu has indeed changed, or at least, is ripe for change.
