Cameroon, Fil-German to play for Hiroshi FC

After losing 11 of its players to suspensions, travels abroad and other reasons, embattled Cebu Invitational Inter-Club defending champion Hiroshi Football Club got a couple of breaks with the addition of a Cameroonian and a Fil-German player as it prepares to defend its title today at the University of San Carlos-Technological Center field.
Siam Thirrey, a Hong Kong-based footballer from Cameroon stumbled upon the Hiroshi website and offered his services to the team.
“He’s not with any club right now, and he’s doing this for the experience. He will take care of the expenses coming here, while he is willing to stay with the boys in their quarters,” assistant coach Francis Ramirez said.
Although they have included Thirrey in their line-up, the player hasn’t arrived yet, though he has promised to contact the team once he gets here.
On the other hand, Hiroshi’s practice session at the Cebu City Sports Center, the City’s lone track oval which attracts joggers daily, attracted another recruit – Fil-German, Arntt Kollmare.
“He jogs here everyday and got to join our practice,” Ramirez said.
Last January, Italian Demetrio Calo also got to join Hiroshi via the same route.
“He’s quite good, and he’s very mature in his movements, minaro ba (he is sly),” Ramirez said.
With Kollmare’s entry, Hiroshi’s first goalkeeper, Frederick Alazas, will again play midfield, while sub-keeper Ace Mangohig will now play in the 38-above division.
Aside from the two, Hiroshi’s reinforcements this year are from University of the Visayas, Benjor Gomora and Epifanio Ynot, and from their 18-under squad, Howard Doline and John Paul Arranquez.
Hiroshi FC will play minus suspended players Harold Buot, Rommel Cuizon, Ariel Cahilig, Richard Romero and Vermonel Resuena, who got penalized for getting into a fight during the Thirsty Cup last January.
They also lost former Carmen National School players Josaphat Sacil and Martin Bontia, who have now rejoined former coach Mario Ceniza at Queen City, while they also dropped brothers Michael and Melvin Culibra, who have stopped attending their training sessions and regulars Voltaire Montebon, Rocky Garciano , Jan Michael Flores and Buddy Verdida are currently in Japan.
Meanwhile, the organizers and coaches of the 2006 Inter-Club were set to meet at Tequilla Joe’s last night for the draw and their final meeting. The Men’s Open, which dangles P45,000 to the champion team, will be played at the USC football field, while the Ladies and 38-above divisions will be at the Sacred Heart School-Jesuit field in Ayala.
