Class ‘74, docs give free medical services
The University of San Carlos-Boys’ High School Class ‘74 and the Philippine College of Surgeons-Eastern Visayas Region held a medical mission in Barili, Cebu.
Class ‘74 chairman Mike Neri and Dr. Armando Tan, who led the surgeons, were classmates.
The two purposely held an “Operation Tuli” at the parish center of St. Ana Parish in the town since Fr. Tony Medida, the parish priest, is also a member of the class.
Service
The convent was transformed into an “operating room,” with long tables covered with surgical drapes and filled with supplies and equipment.
About 15 doctors and nurses participated in the mission, which lasted for five hours and serviced over a hundred children.
Others did minor cyst operations on a few adults.
The class provided organizational support, lunch and snacks for the entire delegation.
Medical supplies for the joint project were provided by the medical team and another class member, Dr. Jonas Gallardo of Cebu Medical Supply.
With the success of the first activity this year, the group plans to do more missions if given the opportunity to serve deserving communities.
