Vehicle crashes into ‘puto’ stall

Eight persons were injured after an Isuzu Highlander crashed into a stall selling puto across the Liloan Parish Church in Barangay Poblacion at dawn yesterday.

The Isuzu Highlander, driven by Tito Reyes, came from Compostela town and was headed for Cebu City when the accident happened.

Reyes is from Villa del Rio, Talamban, Cebu City.

As the vehicle reached a curve at the road, Reyes lost control of the vehicle.

Instead of turning right, he went straight to the road leading towards Sitio Suba and crashed into the stall where several people were having their morning snacks.

The stall is owned by Dolores and Fredo Cañete.

Injured

Those injured were identified as Julius Udtohan, 30, Dante Magdadaro, Pedro Dangoy, Edwin Jugar, Achilles Pilapil, Mariano Longakit, 59, Roel Parsacala, 28, and Luzviminda Batucan Ofredo, 43.

They were rushed to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) in Cebu City.

Dangoy was referred to the neurosurgery department for severe head injuries, while Magdadaro reportedly suffered leg fractures.

The rest had minor injuries.

Damaged

Pilapil’s motorcycle and another motorcycle-for-hire, driven by Manuel Gahi Jr., were damaged.

Reyes was detained at the Liloan Police Station where police had to keep him away from angry relatives of the victims.

Reyes reportedly refused to talk to police and said his lawyer will answer them, according to PO2 Rochell Jugalbot. (MEA)
