Talk back: Funds not misused
By Board of Trustees, Philippine Leprosy Mission

Our program officer showed us a news clipping from your paper which stated that some residents of Barangay Jagobiao and patients are asking for the removal of Dr. Gerardo Aquino from the Eversley Childs Sanitarium, on several charges, one of which concerns us the Philippine Leprosy Mission (PLM).

It alleges that Aquino misused funds donated by the PLM.

We would like to refute this allegation. It is erroneous and we have documents on file, which can prove that every cent we have donated for a specific cause has been used for the purpose it was requested. The liquidation of the funds involved, audited by our program officer and finance officer have been received and validated.

On other matters of the allegations, while we have no knowledge of the specified instances, we have to say that PLM has had transactions with Aquino regarding collaborative activities for many years. We have seen the improvements on the physical aspects of the sanitarium, as well as in the patient care and in the stewardship of resources.

We have not seen or heard of any actions of the sort mentioned in the news report.

We earnestly hope that a thorough and fair investigation is made before any action is taken on the matters.
