Sophies dump Rookies team
The Sophomore squad of coach Nash Racela taught the Rookies quiet a few lessons in basketball as the former repeated over the latter, 133-123, in the 2006 Hope PBA All-Star Weekend’s Rookies versus Sophomores Blitz Game at the Xavier University Gym in Cagayan de Oro City.
The Sophomores, who also trounced the Rookies last year in Laoag City, employed a balanced offensive attack as they led the Rookies from start to finish to capture their second straight All-Star victory.
Sta.Lucia Realty’s Nelbert Omolon put up a magnificent scoring show as he finished the game with 38 markers, while grabbing five rebounds and making four assists to be adjudged as the Blitz Game’s Most Valuable Player.
Meanwhile, the All Star Game will take place today with the North All-Stars eyeing a repeat over their victory in Laoag last year.
The South All Stars are raring to get back at the North team.
“We’ll give them a tough fight. We won’t allow Jayjay (Helterbrand) to once again score 37 points,” said Talk ’N Text’s Asi Taulava of the South team, referring to the North team’s 131-128 win over the South.
“So far, the host team has won the All-Star Game. We’ll try to break that cycle,” said Villanueva. (JSV)
