Niño plucks PBA slam crown
After his Rookies team failed to land the title in the Blitz Game despite his awesome performance, Air21 Express flyer Niño Cañaleta exacted revenge in the skills competition after he successfully defended his crown in the Slam Dunk contest of the 2006 Hope PBA All-Star Weekend at the Xavier University Gym.
Cañaleta titillated the spectators with monster jams to advance into the final round ahead of San Miguel’s Brandon Lee Cablay, Alaska’s John Arigo and Red Bull Barako’s Cyrus Baguio.

Baguio won the other finals seat but Cañaleta was simply too awesome as he defeated Baguio, 75-69, to take home the crown.
Talk ’N Text playmaker Miller, the 2002 PBA MVP, upset defending champion Topex Robinson of Red Bull in the Obstacle Challenge, completing the course in 39.5 seconds in the final round.
Miller made it back-to-back by also bagging the Trick Shot champion’s trophy.
In one of the more exciting final rounds of the competition, Coca-Cola’s William Antonio fired 21 points to claim the top prize of P10,000 in the 3-point shootout. (JSV)
