Barangay chief shoots farmer in disco violence
BARANGAY discos were the setting for violence over the weekend in Cebu Province.
A barangay captain in Sibonga town shot a farmer Friday night in an effort to pacify the trouble in the dance floor, while a man who had been involved in a melee in a dance floor in Toledo City was found dead yesterday morning.
At 10:45 p.m. Friday, Raymundo Cabica suffered gunshot wounds in the head and body after Magkaong Barangay Captain Leocadio Cambonga shot him.
The barangay was holding a benefit dance at the basketball court when a commotion ensued between Cabica and an unidentified person.
The still unidentified man reportedly fled with Cabica at his heels.
Cambonga, in an attempt to pacify them and not cause panic among the other revelers, confronted Cabica and asked him to let it go.
Instead, Cabica allegedly attacked him, prompting him to shoot Cabica.
Cabica was rushed to a hospital.
Cambonga reportedly fled after the incident.
Police recovered a shell for a .45 pistol at the crime scene.
In Sitio Ilag, Barangay Cambag-og, Toledo City, the body of Michael Abendan, 24, was found sprawling in front of a house.
Neighbors found him in front of Aurelia Sesmar’s house yesterday morning.
They told police that at 11 p.m. last Saturday, Abendan was seen on the dance floor when trouble broke out, causing the organizers of the dance to stop the party.
Abendan, who bore multiple stab wounds in his body, was reportedly one of those involved.
He was also in possession of a scythe and a scabbard.
Police submitted his body for autopsy and are further investigating the incident to identify a suspect. (MEA)
