Lapu City to launch search for Ms. South Pacific

The Lapu-Lapu City Government has found another way to attract tourists to visit Mactan Island especially during the annual re-enactment of the Kadaugan sa Mactan.

According to Lapu-Lapu Tourism Council Chairman Rudy Villalobos, the City will institutionalize the Miss South Pacific search, the culminating activity of the festival.

Phoebe Cates Perez, the winner of last Friday’s beauty and brains pageant, which was co-organized by Cebu-based independent film production company, Sugbu Films Philippines Inc., was the first one who grabbed the Miss South Pacific title.

The pageant was held last Friday at the Vistamar Beach Resort in Mactan.

International

Villalobos said the pageant will go international next year since they plan to invite contestants from all over the world.

“We (Lapu-Lapu government) would like to do this every year with participants from other countries,” he said during the event.

Promote

Villalobos said he will ask the Cebu Association of Tour Operators to help Lapu-Lapu and Sugbu Films in promoting the event to tourists.

Sugbu Films creative director Tom Po has expressed gratitude to the Lapu-Lapu City Government for organizing the event, which was sponsored by the Cebu Province, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office and Philippine Gaming and Amusement Board, part of the Kadaugan sa Mactan Festival.

“Rest assured that we (Sugbu Films) will be making the necessary preparations for next year’s beauty pageant next month,” he said.

Sugbu Films produces Cebuano television series and handles events, among others. It aims to revitilize Cebu’s local film industry, which had its heyday in the 1990s. (JBN)
