CPPO requires 24-hour access to cops, stations

Complaints regarding the lack of cooperation of units have reached the top officials of the Presidential Anti-Crime and Emergency Response (Pacer).

During a conference with Pacer Deputy for Administration Senior Supt. Leogardo Santiago, Pacer operatives revealed they had a hard time contacting local police units during emergency cases for the conduct of dragnet operations.

In the conference, Pacer operatives noted that some police members in the country do not inform their tactical operations center or higher headquarters about reported crimes that need immediate action.

Complainants are dismayed over this, as they are expecting swift action, the operatives added.

They lamented that often, the PNP members merely record the reported crimes in the police blotter.

This prompted Pacer to request the PNP to institute “corrective measures” to address these concerns.

All police units were ordered to designate a contact person for each police unit should the need arise.

With this, the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) ordered each police station to submit the names of respective operations officers with their corresponding cellular phone numbers.

“Be advised that cellular phones must be open 24 hours daily and always ready for emergency calls not only from Pacer but other PNP units,” read a memorandum the CPPO sent to all police stations. (MEA)
