Guardo outlasts Cebfa All-Stars

Atan Guardo advanced to the semifinal round after pounding on Cebfa All-Stars, 93-84, in a highly physical bout in the K Gallery Basketball Tournament second conference at the Visayan Glass Gym.

With the win, Atan Guardo grabbed the No.1 spot in bracket A along with Diakon and AD Autos Sales.

Michael Cinco, who topscored with 24 points, converted six of his 12 filed goals in the first quarter to help Atan Guardo erect a 25-20 lead.

Regroup

Cebfa All-Stars, however, regrouped in the second quarter staging a 7-1 run to narrow the gap to 43-41 at the half.

Atan Guardo regained its composure in the third quarter as Toning Villarosa, Dennis Acebron and Paul Torre, who contributed 18 points apiece, led Atan Guardo’s fastbreak attack, which caught Cebfa All-Stars off guard.

Cebfa’s applied pesky defense on Cinco but Totong Villanueva, who chipped in 10 points, took the cudgels, nailing two quick jumpers that doused cold water on Cebfa’s fourth-quarter rally.

The stone-wall defense of Dennis Acebron and Richard Gubaton kept Atan Guardo’s nine-point edge in the penultimate period en route to the victory.

Atan Guardo (93) – Cinco 24, Villarosa 18, Acebron 18, Torre 18,Villanueva 10, Gubaton 2, Limosnero 2, Labay 2. Cebfa All Stars (84) – Tarona 26, A. Cabahug 19, Jardio 13, Cabahug 11,Heyrosa 10, Arong 2.
