Labella wants website of ‘upskirt’ Pinays checked
A Cebu City Councilor wants authorities to investigate a local website that allegedly offers pay-per-view “upskirt” photos of Filipino women.
The photos were surreptitiously taken by those with camera-equipped cell phones to be posted in the Internet.
The website was brought to the councilor’s attention by a concerned citizen who wrote him a letter directing him to open the web address www.camermanyak.forums. place.com.
Sun.Star Cebu tried accessing the website but could not locate the alleged photos.
Republic Act 9208, or the E-Commerce Law, prohibits pornography in the internet.
City Ordinance 1901 also orders Internet cafés to install licenses filtering software against pornographic websites.
Morals
Councilor Edgardo Labella said the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) must look into the report “so that public morals will be amply promoted and safeguarded in the Internet industry”.
At the Capitol, Cebu Provincial Board Member Jose Ma. Gastardo is also asking the NBI to brief them on web pornography, especially on locally-hosted child pornography websites.
The US government has earlier identified the country as a known destination of tourists who are into child sex.
According to the World Health Organization, there are more than 100,000 child pornography web sites, some of which are hosted locally.
A few years ago, an American renting a house equipped with cameras linked to the Internet was arrested for allegedly engaging in pornography. He hired young girls who’d strip in front of the web cams.
Hotel room
Another foreigner was caught taking pictures of naked girls in his hotel room for Internet use.
The suspects were able to post bail and leave the country.
Labella said the concerned citizen said the website is “offering pay-per-view pictures of ‘upskirt shots’ of Filipino women or girls in the Internet.”
Labella heads the committee on laws, ordinances, public accountability and good governance. (RHM)
