UV faces Blazers; UC takes on Blue Eagles

It will be a tall order for the University of Cebu Webmasters as they face the bigger and heftier Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles in the opening day of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) Friendship Games at the Cebu Coliseum.

Although the Webmasters, first runner-up last year in the Cesafi, have a versatile line-up, their lack of size will be a big drawback as they try to contain the Blue Eagles, who will be led by sophomore 6-foot-9 center Japeth Aguilar and 6-6 forward Douglas Kramer.

The rest of the Blue Eagles include Raben Al-Hussaini, Ford Arao, Ken Joseph Barracoso, Mark Anthony Escalona, John Intal, Zion Laterre, Emmanuel Nazareno, Martin Quimson, Jose Antonio Reyes plus two or three new recruits.

In the nightcap, five-time Cesafi champion University of the Visayas Green Lancers will need to flex their muscles against the battle-tested College of St. Benilde Blazers.

NCAA MVP

Last year’s NCAA MVP Ernie Jay Sagad will lead the Blazers in a game expected to be explosive and high scoring.

Sagad will be joined by Kristian Aldover, Christian Cabatu, John Dayrit, Jingle Devaras, Abdel Zahir, Glang, Gilbert Good, Gerard Layug, Carlo Manding, Jeffrey Morial, Paolo Orbeta, Harvey Porras, Kristoffer Robles, Carlos Miguel Trillo and Martin Urra Jr.

Jayford Rodriguez, Morsie Akad, Jun Lasala and Rino Berami will lead the Lancers.

The Men’s matches will be ushered in by the match between the CSB Lady Blazers and the University of Cebu Lady Webmasters. (RCM)
