Sunbolt’s Barnachea ends at 10th, keeps yellow jersey

Santy Barnachea of Sunbolt team retained the yellow jersey despite finishing at 10th spot yesterday in Stage 6 of the 2006 Padyak Pinoy edition of the Tour Pilipinas, which started in Lucena City to Santa Rosa, Laguna, passing by the dreaded Tatlong Eme Pass at Quezon National Park.

The stage victory, on the other hand, belonged to Ericson Obosa of the Inca team, who led a group finish and reached the finish line of the stage in three hours and 57.32 seconds.

Obosa’s 25 hours and 36.22-second time, however, is only good for third spot as he is behind by seven minutes and 13 seconds to Barnachea.

The 30-year-old Barnachea logged an overall time of 25h29.08, while Frederick Feliciano of Air21 was at second and adrift of Barnachea by four minutes and seven seconds with his clocking of 25h33’15” as the competition enters its seventh stage today.

Today’s grind, which will be the deciding point for the overall team classification: whoever grabs the overall lead at the end of the day will be the team champion, will start and end in Tagaytay.

The Cossack Vodka team currently leads the overall team standings with an aggregate clocking of 103 hours, 17 minutes and 20.061 seconds.

Following Cossack are Elixir Sports (103h26’52.044”), Air21 (103h39’55.105”), Sunbolt (104h24’19.485”) and Go21 (104h32’55.285”).

Meanwhile, Cebuano riders McQueen Aleonar and Jovannie Delica, both of Air21, are in the top 30 with Aleonar at 16th place overall and Delica at 29th. (JSV)
