Tourists’ response bodes well for Suroy-Suroy tours
CAPITOL officials had to turn down several tourists who wanted to join the Suroy-Suroy sa Sugbo in Camotes Island over the weekend.
Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia said her office had been receiving text messages and calls asking when the next Suroy-Suroy sa Sugbo will be.
Last weekend’s Suroy-Suroy package featured the beaches and other tourist destinations in the three towns of Camotes Island—Poro, San Francisco and Tudela.
It was dubbed Rediscover Camotes, the second Suroy-Suroy activity of the island, where 150 tourists joined in the two-day trip.
“I forced the issue last year. They were not ready but I forced it because I knew it that if I forced the issue, the tourists will see the possibility and the people here will be challenged,” Garcia said.
The first stop last Saturday was the town of Tudela where the tourists had lunch while being entertained by cultural dances.
Relaxed
Tudela products made out of cassava were also showcased during the affair in their Cassava Festival.
From Tudela, the group proceeded to Lake Danao, in San Francisco town where some tourists relaxed at the lakeside while being served with native food such as binignit, camote and banana cue, siniguellas fruits and coconut water.
Some tourists including Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia also tried fishing tilapia from the lake using hook-and-line fishing.
Dinner and a cultural show were prepared at the beautiful beach of Santiago, San Francisco. The barangay is known for its fine, white sands.
The tourists were also treated with a 30-minute foot massage by the beach for only P100.
“Camotes is really a jewel nestled in the cool and calm waters of the Visayas,” Garcia said. (MBG)
