120 scholars to benefit from GSIS program
The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) is giving scholarship grants to 128 qualified beneficiaries this school year.
The GSIS increased the number of its college scholars from the 48 last year and introduced changes in the program to make it easier to avail of.
The agency has “veered away from the traditional competitive examinations that go with scholarship applications.”
Instead, scholarship slots are now determined by a raffle where all active GSIS members may participate by simply filling out an application form and submitting the form to any GSIS office or through an accredited GSIS liaison officer.
Deadline
The agency also extended the filing for applications for the raffle to 5 p.m. tomorrow.
The GSIS is giving the reminder since applications submitted later than 5 p.m. will no longer be accepted.
The GSIS said the decision to do away with the costly examination process is meant to increase the number of beneficiaries without incurring additional expenses to the state pension fund.
GSIS members may nominate their children, spouses, nephews and nieces, brothers and sisters, grandchildren and non-relatives as a beneficiary.
The GSIS scholars will will receive a maximum of P20,000 for tuition for every semester in college and a monthly allowance of P2,000 or a maximum of P30,000 per semester.
The scholars may enroll in any four-year or five-year courses of their choice.
The GSIS scholarship program is open to all high school graduates, regardless of age and year of graduation in high school.
Even those currently enrolled in college but have not yet graduated from any four-year or five-year courses may be nominated.
Application forms are available at all GSIS branches and offices or from the GSIS liaison officers.
Forms may also be reproduced or downloaded from the GSIS website www.gsis.gov.ph.
