Speak out: Ally of insurance agents
By Andy L. Manatad
President, Board of Insurance Agents

(This is an open letter to Evangeline Crisostomo-Escobillo, commissioner of the Insurance Commission)

In behalf of the Board of Insurance Agents (BIA) we would like to congratulate you for your intrepid move disallowing all forms of consortium to be created in the insurance industry.

We are one with your belief that having a consortium to control a particular segment of the industry is not only detrimental to the interest of the consumer but is also a death knell for small insurance industry agents relying on meager commissions as their means of livelihood.

We at BIA could not contain our emotion when we listened to your speech before members of the Cebu Insurers’ Club. We knew that we have found a valuable ally in your person.

We are forever grateful to you for being fair in understanding that consortiums tend to only benefit a few. Consortiums sacrifice the greater good so that they alone can reap the benefits.

For this, we at BIA will strengthen our resolve to help you in reforming the insurance industry and rally behind your every move for we know everything that you will do for the industry is for the best interest of the majority.

Kudos! May the Good Lord shower you will all the blessings and good health so that you may continue your noble mission to bring the insurance industry to a level far beyond from what is expected.
